Bubble Blizzard 2007

Snow in the Summer
Bubble, bubbles, everywhere!  Since we did not get snow this winter, we'll make up for it by creating a blizzard of bubbles!  Get your best bubble making toys, machines, or magical incantations ready for this summer event.

June 30th, 2007 - 6PM
Pemberton Place
(Home of the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola)
Pemberton Place is located in the Centennial Hill neighborhood on the northern edge of Downtown Atlanta.

We will meet on the playfield next to the "Coca-Cola Store" sign.

FAQs:

Q: How do I get there?
A: That depends on your form of
transportation.  By automobile you can get driving directions from Google maps.  The address is 320 Centennial Olympic Park Drive.  Note that the parking decks for Pemberton Place are on Ivan Allen Blvd.  There are many private parking lots in the area that might be cheaper than either of the parking decks.

If you are arriving on MARTA, you can take the train to N1: Peachtree Center, N2: Civic Center, or W1: Dome / GWCC / Philips Arena / CNN Center station and follow the signs to the Georgia Aquarium. Bus routes 13, 97, 100, and 101 all have stops at Pemberton Place.  Routes 1 and 11 have stops only one block away.

Q: Do I have to go to Google Maps to get directions?  Can't you do it for me?
A: No, but you can find directions to Pemberton Place on both the World of Coca-Cola website and the Georgia Aquarium website.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Nothing.  You bring your own bubble making supplies and that's it.  If you haven't been to either the Georgia Aquarium or the World of Coca-Cola, why not arrive earlier in the day and give them a try?

Q: Hey, you are suppose to give answers, not ask questions!
A: Yeah, well you are suppose to ask questions, not make statements! Don't make me take away your bold font.

Q: Ok, ok, well, tell me, why is Coca-Cola putting on this event?
A: Coca-Cola has nothing to do with the event.  It's just a bunch of people from the community showing up to make use of their green space to blow bubbles.  Given that Coca-Cola is filled with bubbles, it does seem like a fitting location.

Q: So Coca-Cola isn't sponsoring the event, what about the Georgia Aquarium?
A: Um, no... this is just a bunch of people who want to blow bubbles and make summer a bit more fun by getting together to do it.

Q: Do I need to RSVP?
A: It is not required but it would be nice if you RSVP'd on the evite.  It is helpful to have a general idea of how many people are going to show up.

Q: You also organize a pub crawl, will there be drinking?
A: You can drink anything that the Coca-Cola vending machines sell or that is available at the Far Coast cafe.  We don't know Coca-Cola's policies on the consumption of alcoholic beverages in Pemberton Place but we're going to guess that they're against it.  So please, don't bring alcohol!

Q: Does that mean that children are welcome to attend?
A: Children and bubbles go together like gin and vermouth, er, make that, America and apple pie!  You can't have a bubble blizzard without children. Alright, you could have a bubble blizzard without children but it would be a real shame for them to miss out.

Q: Then there really will be no consumption of adult beverages?
A: Sigh... ok, you win.  After the Bubble Blizzard is over, those who wish to have a drink or a bite to eat can stop by one of the nearby pubs.  If it has had its grand opening by then, we're planning on going to the Luckie Food Lounge. From there, we will have a 'On the Park' pub crawl.  Obviously only those of drinking age can attend this after blizzard event.

Q: Speaking of afterwards, how long will the Bubble Blizzard last?
A: That depends entirely on when everyone runs out of bubbles.  You're of course free to leave any time you wish but we're going to keep on going with the bubbles until we can't blow anymore.

Q: Will there be bubble supplies for sale?
A: Sorry, you'll have to plan ahead and get your bubble supplies before showing up.  Think of it as a lesson in time management.

Q: Well, that was a sneaky comment, wasn't it?
A: We have no idea what you're talking about.  Besides, this event is on Saturday not [Sonny]day.

Q: What if it rains?
A: You'll get wet.

Q: Seriously, if it rains, will the Bubble Blizzard be postponed?
A: If it rains, first of all, everyone will be happy since we're in a drought.  Unfortunately, in heavy rain, bubbles don't do too well.  If it does rain, we will wait until it stops.  There is shelter from the rain very close by in the Far Coast cafe, the entrance area of the Georgia Aquarium, and the elevator vestibule of the Pemberton Place parking deck.  If it does rain, it is unlikely to last more than fifteen minutes. This is all moot since it is not going to rain.  Mother Nature made a deal with us.

Q: Where did the idea come from, has anyone else done this?
A: Many cities have hosted this type of event under different names such as Bubble Battle. We don't know who started this, it's probably been going on in a limited form for as long as there have been bubble wands sold, but the best known organizer of is Newmindspace out of Toronto.
